Speed cameras in your street soon?

Yes if you live in one of London’s residential roads, you may soon find a speed camera on every corner. Transport for London (TfL) are already testing average speed cameras to enforce 20 mph zones in two London boroughs, with more to follow.  They may well be rolled out over the whole of London in due course. There could be a spy camera monitoring your every movement in a few years (and they won’t be used solely for speed enforcement). Go here to learn more: About .

There are already 800 speed cameras in London, and little evidence that they improve the road accident statistics. Indeed speed display devices have been shown to be both cheaper and more effective so why are they not used instead? Because they do not raise revenue! London boroughs already rake in many millions of pounds every year in decriminalised moving traffic offences and parking fines - average speed cameras will be yet another opportunity for them to profit at the expense of motorists. Let’s make sure we stop them now!

Do we need more cameras in London?

Salter Road, Southwark

This is one of the locations where the new average speed cameras are being tested for enforcement of a wide-area 20 mph zone. The other test site is Mansfield Road, Camden.

20 Mph Zones. Are they needed?

Note that the ABD does not oppose 20 mph speed limits in residential zones, where the streets are narrow and traffic is likely to adhere to the speed limit. But we do oppose enforcement by speed cameras.

Objective. The objective of this campaign is quite simple - to halt the spread of 20 mph average speed cameras and get any existing ones removed.
